Project Compassion 2025

Ash Wednesday.png

Ash Wednesday - 05 March 2025

This week, the season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning Caritas Australia’s annual Project Compassion Appeal.
The theme of Project Compassion 2025 is ‘Unite Against Poverty’, because together we can take action to make a lasting difference!
By donating to Project Compassion, Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, can work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.

Pick up a Project Compassion box or a set of envelopes or donate online via our specific Holy Family Catholic Parish Caritas website at:

https://fundraise.projectcompassion.org.au/o/the-holy-family-catholic-parish

(Our Parish recommends electronic donating as it gets funds to where they are needed far quicker, significantly reduces extra cash handling work for our volunteers and finding and driving to a bank that will receive cash!)

First Sunday of Lent - 09 March 2025

We have begun our annual Lenten Project Compassion journey. This year, we are going to learn about three incredible people from three different corners of the world, facing vastly different challenges.

Second Sunday of Lent - 16 March 2025

This week through Project Compassion, we learn about Toefuata'iga from Samoa.

Toefuata'iga, a 13-year-old student in Samoa, faced severe challenges and disruptions to her learning due to water scarcity. After Caritas Australia’s partner Caritas Samoa installed a 10,000 litre water tank at her school, Toefuata'iga and her classmates saw improved health and more consistent class attendance.

“I would like to become a good teacher. To teach the children so they will have a brighter future,” Toefuata'iga said.

Third Sunday of Lent - 23 March 2025

In the third week of Lent, our next Project Compassion story features Lam from Vietnam..

Lam, a young man from rural Vietnam with a passion for graphic design, faced limited career prospects due to his disability. With support from the I-SHINE program, he pursued IT training and now runs a successful freelance graphic design business.

“When I got the chance to be a part of this program, I was over the moon – just bursting with excitement and joy,” Lam said.

In the fourth week of Lent, the Project Compassion story features Irene from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Irene is a 25-year-old single mother of two boys living in DRC. Despite experiencing extreme poverty, she has become a skilled seamstress and can now support her children’s education with her income.

“With the earnings from this job, I can not only buy my own clothes but also for my family members… Regarding the children I send to school, there are my orphaned nephews from my late brother. I make sure to provide for all their needs," Irene said.

As we enter Holy Week, we continue to reflect on the lives of people vulnerable to extreme poverty and injustice and how we can respond by supporting Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion Appeal.

Together, we are creating a better tomorrow, helping vulnerable communities build stronger futures for themselves and empowering them to break free from the cycle of poverty. Thank you for standing with us!

Please return all Project Compassion boxes and envelopes to the parish office as soon as possible or donate online via the Caritas Australia website
